Discovering My "Why"

Lately I've been thinking a lot about my "purpose" or "why" I do the things that I do. This has been something that I've incorporated into my weekly routine where I do a 15-30 minutes self-awareness exercise where I look back throughout the week to identify how I can continuously improve my lifestyle. This all started after I read the book: Start With Why: How Great Leaders Inspire Everyone To Take Action By Simon Sinek where he talks about how in business, it doesn't matter WHAT we do, it matters WHY you do it.

Simon talks about the "Golden Circle" and how all the successful businesses aren't just successful because they have a great product, but it actually starts with their why. The golden circle starts from the inside out with the "WHY" at the centre, then has the "HOW" as the second layer then finally the "WHAT" which is the outermost layer of the circle. After reading this book, it gave me a framework for discovering my purpose and really diving deep to understand the reasons for why I want to do things.

He gives an amazing example of how the brand Apple communicates to the world and which was what actually inspired me to write out my vision using the why, how and what framework.

  • WHY: Everything we do, we believe in challenging the status quo. We believe in thinking differently.
  • HOW: The way we challenge the status quo is by making our products beautifully designed, simple to use and user-friendly.
  • WHAT: And we happen to make great computers.
  • Wanna buy one?

Everything I do, I believe in providing a realistic view of the world.

The way I can provide a realistic view of the world is by creating honest, authentic and easy to consume content.

And I happen to post blogs on a weekly basis

Remember, the WHAT is something that can change over time because that's not actually what's important. It's the WHY which is the most important and critical. If what you do in life is revolved around your purpose and WHY, you will always have a clear sense of direction of where you are headed.

I am still on the journey in discovering the WHAT aspect of my vision and hope to bring everyone along with me. I know already that it is going to change and hopefully for the better, so if you're interesting in joining me, please feel free to subscribe to my blog where I'll be posting weekly content and if you have any feedback make sure to send them through the contact form.
